Star Wars Wednesday - Fantasy Flight Games Announcement

Yesterday, Fantasy Flight Games announced they have the Star Wars games license. They were one of the front runners of the rumor mill, not the least of which was due to their high production values.

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce that it has entered a comprehensive licensing partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd. for the worldwide rights to publish card, roleplaying, and miniatures games set in the popular Star Wars™ universe!

You can read the entire announcement here.

They have announced two games. An X-Wing tactical game with miniatures, and a card game. So far, they are stressing differences in these games to what came before.

FFG has not announced if they will produce an RPG or not, but since they included it in the first line of their press release, it seems likely they eventually will do so. It is possible they may save the for some kind of announcement at GenCon, which begins Thursday and runs through the weekend. The timing of the announcement is no coincidence.

Fantasy Flight is well known for its quality board games, and its variety of types of games. You can find their current RPG offerings here, which includes Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and Dark Heresy.

It will be interesting to see if there is more to come at GenCon.

Speaking of GenCon, I'll be there. I'll be one of 6 gamemasters running the CHAOS events, popular at past ShaunCons and KC Game Fairs. The D&D version filled in prereg, but there are likely still spots open for Saturday's mixed genre (traditional) version. I'm running the 4e table in the D&D version, Star Wars Saga Edition in the traditional version.

Other than that, you might find me around some of the Wizards of the Coast seminars on Thursday, or around the dealers hall.

Gotta get back to packing....

FFG have now confirmed that they're working on an RPG. What do you reckon Sterling - would you get involved if they asked you?
