Star Wars Miniatures Battles: Assault on Intran

“Blast!”

Rono’s sudden outburst shattered the early morning silence. The rest of the control room duty personnel turned from their panels as he slapped the intercom and cut through Commander Mezo’s groggy response.

“Sir, the Imperial Strike cruiser Firestrike just dropped out of hyperspace above us. Fighters and landing craft launched immediately. They know we’re here.”

Mezo came immediately awake. “Prepare for ground assault. They obviously mean to capture the base, rather than pound us to dust from orbit. They must want to make an example of former Imperial Senator Coel and his guests. Lucky for us, the Imperials are in a hurry, otherwise we’d have a lot more than a single strike cruiser up there.”

“Yeah, not even a Star Destroyer. The strike cruiser’s ground forces are relatively limited.”

“So are ours. Limited or not, they will be all we can handle.”

“Still, we have a few surprises of our own. We might withstand this.”

“Yes, if we’re lucky enough that Imperial reinforcements don’t arrive too soon, and if we’re good enough to repel this assault. Then maybe we can get out of here before half the Imperial sector fleet shows up. Maybe. Sound the alert.”

The Assault on Intran is a large scale Star Wars Miniatures battle taking place at the  KC Game Fair in November. After the Battle of Hoth, but before the Battle of Endor, Imperial forces attack a Rebel starfighter base on the distant world of Intran. The Imperials are moving quickly after discovering the base’s location, hoping to capture some high-ranking Rebel sympathizers.

There are two parts to this event: Brak Sector Skirmishes and the Assault on Intran itself. The Brak Sector Skirmishes may be played by anyone prior to the convention, even those who do not attend. The Assault is at the convention itself, and some of the set up and in-game events are based on the results of the earlier skirmishes.

Brak Sector Skirmishes

The Brak Sector Skirmishes are minor battles between Rebel and Imperial forces fighting in numerous locales across Brak Sector. Locations and squad building rules are listed below. Simply pick a location (including space battles), build your squad and battle it out using the normal Star Wars Miniatures rules. You may play once per location type.

When finished, send your result by November 1st via the Contact form on this website. Include the map used, the winner and how many units survived the skirmish.

Check back here after November 8 to see how the skirmishes affected the Assault on Intran at the convention.

Squad Building

Squads should be standard 100 point squads, though they may be larger if both players agree. 75 points of each squad must be either Imperial or Rebel Alliance. The remaining 25 points may be Fringe. Most Fringe units are legal, unless they clearly only exist in another era like Knights of the Old Republic.

Starships: Standard rules apply, no restrictions on ships used.

Maps

All maps are legal to use, and have been categorized below. Maps marked Chris West are from his Maps of Mastery line. The map categories also indicate a basic underlying reason for the skirmish, and possible affect on the Assault on Intran. Rebel attacks attempt to gain material goods or military intelligence. Imperial attacks attempt to disrupt Rebel forces and leaders. Unexpected skirmishes affect possible reinforcement configurations and arrival times on the battlefield, as well as other more random results.

Assault on Intran

Maps, minis and squads will be provided for this 8 player battle. Set up and certain conditions will be partially dictated by the results of the Brak Sector Skirmishes and announced before play begins.

Players may bring a 100 point squad of their own to use, subject to the limitations below. Players may also want to bring both an Imperial and Rebel squad, as players will not know their faction until the start of the game.

Squad Building

Squads must be standard 100 point squads. 75 points of each squad must be either Imperial or Rebel Alliance. The remaining 25 points may be Fringe. Most Fringe units are legal, unless they clearly only exist in another era like Knights of the Old Republic.

Uniques are limited to 1 per squad, and may not include any form of Jedi, Sith, Force user, Darth Vader, the Emperor, Boba Fett, Thrawn, Luke Skywalker, Yoda, and so forth. Some of these characters are already included in the battle. Some duplicates of some characters will be allowed, if they are in different squads. Vehicles, Huges and emplacements are allowed, and will be part of the game. Units with the savage ability are prohibited. I reserve the right to disallow any squad or mini I feel necessary to preserve game balance.

Please mark your minis with tags so we know who owns which one at the end of the game.

Remember this is a friendly game, not a DCI tournament round. An effort will be made to adhere to the game rules, and FAQ interpretations, but not DCI rules specifically. Some scenario specific rules will be in effect.

May the Force Be With You.
