Dice in Mind Podcast Interview

The Dice in Mind podcast released a new interview with me a few days ago. We discuss my RPG and cartography freelancing, as well as some other subjects along the way. It is Episode 99: Sterling Hershey and FFG and Edge Studio, and can be downloaded here from Apple or Podbean.

They interview a lot of different individuals involved in gaming and/or the gaming industry, and take a broader view at times. A few previous interviews readers of this…periodic…blog might be interested are listed here for Podbean, but should also be on Apple.

New Podcast Interview - Board at Work by Pawn and Pint

BoardatWork Podcast.PNG

I was invited to appear on the new Pawn and Pint podcast series Board at Work. Pawn and Pint is a game pub in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. They have a gigantic wall of board games and many RPG events.

Board at Work by Pawn and Pint: EP 003 Talking Star Wars with writer and game designer Sterling Hershey - Donald the DM and I discuss the span of my career as a writer and game designer for the Star Wars role-playing games. And some other bits.

Star Wars Wednesday - GamerNation Con 2016

This past weekend brought GamerNation Con 2016, hosted in Dallas, Texas by d20 radio and the Order66 podcast. I had a good time last year and found a way to get a bit of time to return this year. The con is relatively small, but has a very dedicated Star Wars RPG fan base, and it hosts a wide variety of board games, RPGs, and...lip sync battle. GamerNation clearly extends well beyond the US and some attendees come from around the world - Germany, Australia, Scotland, Canada, Norway, and probably others I'm overlooking at the moment. It was fun to see those who returned from last year, plus those who I've met elsewhere, like GenCon or Star Wars Celebration. The guests of honor were Rodney Thompson (formerly of Wizards of the Coast, Star Wars Saga Edition and D&D 5e fame, now with Bungie working on Destiny) and Christopher West (Maps of Mastery).

I'd Just as Soon Kiss a Mookiee Podcast Appearance

Last week Jason Fry and Shannon Shark invited me on their Mets and Star Wars podcast called I'd Just as Soon Kiss a Mookiee, just before the Royals-Mets opening day. We talk baseball, stadiums, Royals, Mets, the Star Wars RPGs, Rebels and more. It was a lot of fun. Jason is a Star Wars writer (Atlas, The Weapon of a Jedi, and many more) and blogs about the Mets at FaithandFearInFlusing.com. Shannon Shark blogs about the Mets at MetsPolice.com.

Since recording the podcast, the Royals defeated the Mets in opener. Jason's blog recap entry is here.

Star Wars Wednesday - Celebration Anaheim 2015, Part 1

Star Wars Celebration Anaheim was fantastic. It certainly had a seemingly never-ending stream of announcements and news, starting off with a bang with the new Star Wars Episode VII trailer. It's as big or a bigger hit around the world as it was at the show. But, Celebration had far more than that. For starters, it sold out 4 day tickets, Saturday, and Sunday tickets.

Star Wars Wednesday - Music Universes

Back from another KC Game Fair. I had a good time. I intend to post some of the adventure information and possibly the characters I used for The Sabacc Incident, but given that it is more of an outline than fleshed out, ready to run adventure, it will likely take awhile to get it better organized.

This week, the music of and in Star Wars has appeared in a couple of places. I've heard the music of the movies, Clone Wars and Shadows of the Empire over and over for years. As I've said before, for me, the original Star Wars soundtrack was a stand-in for the movie itself in the days before VCRs and video.

Star Wars Wednesday - Update from the Edge 01

There were several updates from Fantasy Flight Games this past week or so regarding the Star Wars game line. I liked the blog title enough that I might reuse it from time to time (though putting a number in the title almost guarantees I'll drop it before using it a second time. Planning, right?). On top of that, I'll be making another Order 66 podcast appearance on Sunday evening, 8:30pm, justin.tv.

Star Wars Wednesday - Clone Wars and Podcasts

Two topics of interest this week that don't exactly fit together. The first is the 100th Episode of The Clone Wars, the second is the conversion of the Order 66 podcast from Saga Edition to Edge of the Empire. Read on for comments on both...with a spoiler alert on the 100th Episode musings. After the break, the post will proceed with the podcast info, then a large break for those who don't want to accidentally read a spoiler or two on the Clone Wars.

Star Wars Wednesday - SWEotE Beginner Game Release

This past week marked the first true, final product release for the new Star Wars RPG from Fantasy Flight Games, the Edge of the Empire Beginner Game. It is a true beginners game, with step by step instructions for brand new RPG players, which work just fine for veterans as well. It has a streamlined version of the Edge of the Empire RPG rules which are technically still in Beta, until its anticipated release in 2013. This won't be a review of the product, but I'll throw out a few comments and a few helpful links for those who want to check it out.

Star Wars Wednesday - SWRPG: Edge of the Empire Beta Announced!

FFG Demo at their booth at GenConGenCon proved to be even more exciting than I anticipated. I was reasonably sure that the new Star Wars RPG from Fantasy Flight Games would be announced - something I was greatly looking forward to because I'm one of the writer/developers on the product. Having been under a non-disclosure agreement, I couldn't say a word throughout the process.

Prior to the announcement, FFG hung a black banner over one of their Star Wars banners, with a sign that said something along the lines of "new game to be announced at the In-Flight Report," which is their product seminar. The seminar room was very full. FFG walked through their various product lines, production updates and the occasional question. Once they got to the end, they had "one more thing" and announced three Star Wars RPG core rulebooks, each a standalone game.

Star Wars Wednesday - More Talnar's Rescue & Interview

Well, it's not even close to Wednesday this week, but chances are, if I change it to Star Wars Weekly, it will become soon become Star Wars Monthly.

So, I received word recently that the Threat Detected podcast has posted the last section of the interview they started with me regarding Talnar's Rescue and Saga Edition in general, last fall. You can find a list of links here. Thread Detected also posts a lot of Saga stats related to the games they are playing, so Saga players should keep them in mind when looking for new resources.

Star Wars Wedensday - Podcasts: Blazing Chain & Talnar's Rescue

This week's Star Wars Wednesday is a bit delayed, once again. No good reason, other than holiday prep and forgetting to post at the last minute. I have even less of an excuse, as I planned to reference my most recent appearance on the Order 66 podcast, and a live-game recording of my popular adventure Talnar's Rescue over at the Threat Detected podcast
