Planet Comicon in Kansas City celebrated its 20th year. I’ve been to quite a few over the years, including their previous location in Overland Park, Kansas before they moved into the more central and much larger Bartle Hall in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The new location coincided with a great increase in scale and attendance, and this year continued that trend. There was the typical collection of artists, writers, media guests, and cosplayers. They also brought in several Star Wars related guests, as they often do.Read More
GamerNation Con is next up on my look at the past few weeks of conventions in reverse order. Hosted by d20Radio and the creators of the Order 66 podcast, GN Con is up to its 6th year, which is pretty amazing and continues to draw people from around the world - Australia, Norway, Canada, the US, and probably others I’m overlooking at the moment. At least one or more of the regulars skipped it due to Star Wars Celebration the following week, which from a health standpoint probably would have been a good idea for me as well…Read More
It has been a very busy couple of months, with a job change and a trio of consecutive conventions consuming my time. I hope to catch up here over the next few weeks. I’ll be working in reverse order, with this week covering the just completed Star Wars Celebration Chicago, next week discussing Gamer Nation Con 6, and finally Planet Comicon 2019. So, on with Celebration…Read More
It’s November, which always brings a convention and often an end of the year project or two, and this year is no exception. There usually seems to be one or more previews of upcoming or soon to be released works, and that too is on schedule.Read More
I’ll be one of the special guests at Midwest GameFest this weekend November 1st thru the 4th in Independence, MO (Kansas City metro area). I’ll be running Star Wars RPGs, as well as a little Savage Worlds Flash Gordon, Numenera, and the latest version of Paranoia. I’m also hosting seminars on writing RPGs and cartography. Preregistration event sign up has passed, but there are still plenty of space available to sign up on site. Click here for events and schedules.
I’m one of the Special Guests at Recruits Convention 23rd show this weekend, September 28-30, 2018 at Lee's Summit High School in Lee's Summit, Missouri. I'll be hosting seminars and running some games. The game schedule is available (no pre-registration for games, sign up on site). I’ll be running a shorter version of my Kessel Breakout con adventure. The seminar schedule isn’t up yet, but I’ll be hosting three. Since the con is at a high school, the first two will have more of a how-to/educational approach.
Friday 6pm-7pm - Creating Maps & Deckplans for Games
Saturday 1pm-2pm - Writing for RPGs
Sunday 11am-12pm - Star Wars RPG Q&A
There will be a lot of games, particularly war games, along with some RPGs hosted by RPGKC. It is an inexpensive event to check out.
It's August, and time for Gen Con once again. This year saw some new Star Wars game announcements, mainly minis products.Read More

Kantcon is coming up in July, and I'll be running a new Star Wars RPG adventure, and a panel/workshop. The adventure is definitely going to be Solo deep dive of sorts....Kessel Breakout. The panel/workshop will build on some of the items I discussed at my GamerNation Con panel earlier this year, but more organized and focused more on process.Read More
Thanks to deadlines, work travel, and more, I've been remiss in posting these past few weeks. This lasted right up until last week when I was on my way to GamerNation Con 5, The Order of the Gamers (with a Harry Potter theme). I was the Guest of Honor this year, and it was a great time. Lots of Star Wars RPGs were played, and much more.Read More

GNCon runs April 5-8, 2018 at Dallas Games Marathon in Plano, Texas.
GNCon is a small game convention, but draws attendees from d20 Radio's fans around the world. I'll be doing a panel and running some games. Space is limited at the con, so backing the Kickstarter is a must for attendees. More information is on the kickstarter site.
I'll be a Guest again this year at Midwest GameFest, returning to the Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Center in Independence, MO (Kansas City, MO metro) November 2-5. I'll running a couple of different Star Wars Edge of the Empire RPG adventures, Numenera, and even the new edition of Paranoia. I'll also be doing a solo version of the 30 Years of Star Wars RPGs panel from Gen Con 50.
Special Guest Rick Loomis, founder of Flying Buffalo Games, will be running Nuclear War tournaments and other events. There will be D&D Adventurers League, Legend of the 5 Rings Heroes of Rokugan, Pathfinder Society, Shadowrun Missions, and more RPGs, a huge board game library, cosplay, the Artemis Bridge Simulator and more. For the first time, there is even a way to participate in the con online, for free.
Gen Con 50 was last week, and with it came a couple of announcements. One I should have covered here before the show, but had issues trying to use a mobile app to update the blog. I eventually just had to give up. The convention was fun. It was also sold out at 60,000 unique badges and over 200,000 visitors, however that is calculated. It felt more crowded at times, but not as overwhelming as it might have been. Part of that was expanding into Lucas Oil Stadium, I'm sure.Read More
Gen Con is next week, so of course I'm not ready yet...like everyone else going to Gen Con.Read More
Last weekend was Kantcon, a small but busy gaming convention in the KC area. I rolled out a new con Star Wars adventure. This time I also left enough time to actually play some games as well, as opposed to running the majority of the time.Read More
